Amanda's Happy Hearth by Amanda

I love designing and making beautiful, practical things.  Love to knit! I crochet a lot too, since it works better for me with some things like plarn and t-shirt strips. I usually end up designing my own patterns  or making major mods to existing ones. I have a huge stash of  sportweight yarn  (my fave), plastic grocery bags, and t-shirts. I love to  re-use / recycle,  and I  have made items with plarn from ziplocs, bread bags,  produce bags, and of  course, grocery bags.  Read more ...

Coco Knits by Julie

Picture
While studying German in Salzburg, Austria, I learned  to knit at a shop close to the Abbey where  scenes from “The Sound of  Music” were filmed. I have always suspected the women in the knitting  shop moonlighted as extras in the movie; they resembled each other in so  many ways.  I enjoy saying I was taught by knitting nuns… even if they  weren’t, really.   Read more ...

Amy Solovay is a freelance textile designer living in southern California. She designs for both the fashion and home furnishings industries. Although her designs have been sold through big-box retailers, artistic handcrafts have always been her greatest passion. Amy has been crocheting since childhood. As a child, she enjoyed making clothes for her dolls.  When she was in high school, she discovered freeform crochet. As a college student, some of her freeform crochet was exhibited at a gallery.  Her love of fiber led her to pursue both a degree and a career in textile
design.   Read more ...

I was introduced to the art of crochet when I was little, and later on I further taught myself to crochet, read patterns, and design my own crochet patterns.  Sewing, crosstitching, and making candles, soaps and other crafts are also a few of my favorite things to do. Above all, however, I love to crochet and design new crochet patterns.   Read more ...

Plastic Bag Crafts by Nicole

Picture
We are just two LA-area professionals who crochet. We really got into the notion
of upcycling materials that would otherwise go into a landfill, and started
experimenting with plarn. A lot of people were interested in what we were doing
so we started plasticbagcrafts.com. My partner has been crocheting extensively since she was very young, and is gifted at designing and documenting patterns using plarn.

Pretty in Purls by Lady Katka

Picture
I live in Northwestern Ontario. I have been up to my elbows in yarn for 20 years, but I don’t mind one bit. I am not what anyone would call conventional as I do like to create works of art out of yarn and yarn substitutes, instead of what most would think of when they think of knitting. I never create the same  thing twice because once I have made it I know what it looks like and therefore  don’t need to make it again. To many patterns, not enough time.  I leave you with these wise words my father told me. Life is unexpected, so eat dessert first.  Read more ....

I love Maine, running, skiing, traveling, knitting, reading, writing, and swearing (sorry, mum).  I like  expensive whiskey and cheap beer (again, sorry mum:).  I love my girlfriends, my family, my dog Awesome, and my cat Mr. Kitty.  I love making my own everything.  I love watching and helping ideas, plants, and people grow. During the day, I'm a freelance web and graphic designer for micro and small businesses--a job I love and can't get enough of. There's more that I love about living in and being a part of this big ol' goofy world, but you get the idea.

Thoughts From A Screen by Sherri

Picture
I picked up crochet when I was younger, watching my mother. I prefer to work in yarn instead of thread, although I have tried a few projects in thread. I’d stopped crocheting for awhile as life took over, but lately have picked it back up. I’ve recently finished several projects intended as Christmas gifts for family and have been thoroughly bitten by the “crochet bug”.  Now I can also say I am learning to knit. My hubby (the enabler) gifted me a great knitting set with tons of needles, how-to books, and gadgets. So I’m plugging away at a few  practice projects.  Read more ...
